About me

Hi, I’m Katie.

I am a sister, partner, mother, listener, facilitator and teacher.

I chose the name mindfulmama for my blog not because my journey is all about being a mindful parent, but because being a mother inspires me to be a better person, and my children’s relentless growth is a constant reminder that life is fleeting, and the time to live in the present is NOW, not after class is planned or laundry is folded. Interactions with my children are my daily litmus, a beautiful reflection of my inner world. In them I see how greatly I desire to be more compassionate and less reactive.

I also chose mindfulmama because I am finally embracing the feminine, a counter-culture move in a world dominated by masculine measures and goals. With this name I claim my innate mama-power: creating, going deep and getting dirty. With this name I learn to delight in descent and to savor the pain of birthing new life. I celebrate the goddess, the earth, cooperation and connection. I cherish time resting in my cave, composting failures and transforming grief. I slow, and in doing so, I honor life’s many cycles.

I play with magic and I dance in the darkness as well as the light, and I invite you to accompany me on my journey.

Please join me on the web, on the mat, in circle or in conversation.

Namaste,

mindful mama
